At least half of us know we ran a wrong race but we continue to run because we need to survive in this competitive world

We became deaf to hear our hearts and our hearts after these many years learnt to stay dumb ….

We pushed our limits to reside at a place where do not belong to because our Parents wanted us here …

I have enough bank balance … A wonderful duplex with lawn and swimming pool …. I buy the most luxurious car that enters the market every year … But I know I miss something beyond all this in my life that is being me ….

I loved to go for a ride on my bicycle to my friends house … I couldn’t

I loved to play tennis at my college lawn … I missed it

I loved walking in rain with my friends making fun … I didn’t

I was bound by restrictions and rules that everyone imposed on my heart that made it dumb!!

I am Dad now … Expecting my children to perform better than me…  Setting them goals for tomorrow … But the goals I set for them are not the same my Dad has set me ….

For I know the value of little pleasures in life I have set them free to Listen their Hearts … I don’t want my children to be Bill Gates of future to earn money but

I want to see them as Sachin who loves to play his game even at mid thirties … A MF Hussein who enjoys painting his art in Eighties …. I will set them free …

The Library of Congress is the research library of the United States Congress and is the oldest federal cultural institution in the United States. The Knock Nevis is a massive ship, currently used as a floating storage and offloading unit (FSO). Owned by the Norwegian company Fred Olsen Production, she was previously a supertanker and still holds the record as the longest ship ever built.

When plying the sea, the vessel had a fully laden draft of 24.6 m (81 ft), rendering it unable to navigate the English Channel, the Suez Canal or the Panama Canal when its load was up to capacity. As a tanker she was known as the Seawise Giant, Happy Giant, and Jahre Viking.

The Knock Nevis was the longest ship ever constructed, longer than many of the world’s tallest buildings are tall. Though slightly smaller than Taipei 101 at 509.2 metres (1,671 ft) and the Sears Tower at 527.3 metres (1,730 ft) from street level to top of antenna, she is larger than the Petronas Twin Towers at 452 metres (1,480 ft).

In spite of its great length, the Knock Nevis is not the largest ship, ranking fifth in gross tonnage at 236,710 GT, behind the four 274,838 to 275,276 GT Batillus-class supertankers, the largest self-propelled objects ever constructed.

The eight-hour day movement or 40-hour week movement, also known as the short-time movement, had its origins in the Industrial Revolution in Britain, where industrial production in large factories transformed working life and imposed long hours and poor working conditions. With working conditions unregulated, the health, welfare and morale of working people suffered. The use of child labour was common. The working day could range from 10 to 16 hours for six days a week.

Robert Owen had raised the demand for a ten-hour day in 1810, and instituted it in his socialist enterprise at New Lanark.  By 1817 he had formulated the goal of the eight-hour day and coined the slogan Eight hours labour, Eight hours recreation, Eight hours rest. Women and children in England were granted the ten-hour day in 1847. French workers won the 12-hour day after the February revolution of 1848. A shorter working day and improved working conditions were part of the general protests and agitation for Chartist reforms and the early organization of trade unions.

FIRST TO IMPLEMENT THE 8 HOUR RULE

In 1864, the eight-hour day quickly became a central demand of the Chicago labor movement. The Illinois legislature passed a law in early 1867 granting an eight-hour day but had so many loopholes that it was largely ineffective. A city-wide strike that began on May 1, 1867 shut down the city’s economy for a week before collapsing. In 1868, Congress passed an eight-hour law for federal employees, which was also of limited effectiveness.

In August 1866 the National Labor Union at Baltimore passed a resolution that said, “The first and great necessity of the present to free labour of this country from capitalist slavery, is the passing of a law by which eight hours shall be the normal working day in all States of the American Union. We are resolved to put forth all our strength until this glorious result is achieved.”
